Description

These plants are smaller than Phrag. pearcei!  Over twenty (20) years ago, we found a diminutive form of Phrag. longifolium growing intermixed with larger plants along a river in Western Panama. The mother plant is one of the smallest Phragmipedium plants we have ever come across in a natural population.  For a species that is known for having some of the largest plants in the genus, this was a truly special encounter!  The plant was selfed, and we now have a few multi-growth, blooming-size seedlings available.  These will never outgrow a 6-inch pot and can produce flowers all year long.  The flowers are typical for longifolium but a bit smaller overall.  The giveaway is in the pattern of spots on the face of the claw.  Not sure if we are going to have more of these for some time.
